Improving remote work experience through innovative design: A Case Study Research.

Maximizing Work Efficiency
While Working from Home

The Changing Landscape of Remote Work

In recent years, remote work has experienced a remarkable rise, which the COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated. This research study provides a compelling investigation into the complexities and challenges of remote work, offering innovative and adaptable solutions to meet the needs of modern workers.

The Challenge

According to Gensler’s report (2021), some challenges employees face are distraction, isolation, and work-life balance. Similarly, employers are also facing challenges such as collaboration and tracking the productivity of their workers.

Research also shows the benefits of working from home, such as minimizing Commute, it’s more economical, provides a flexible work schedule, and is more efficient.

Solution Proposed

Design a product that will enhance the work-from-home experience and cater to the diverse needs of remote workers, providing a multifunctional, adaptable, workspace that facilitates productivity and flexibility.

Concept Development

The concept development process resulted in three distinct concepts that were derived from survey results and ideas generated during co-design sessions. These concepts involve integrating fixed desk systems with mobile workstations, aiming to enhance work-life balance and improve work efficiency.

Prototyping & User Testing

This part of the research implements an iterative testing and prototyping process, involving research participants from previous focus groups and interview sessions. The initial user testing involved five participants, followed by a second phase with three participants, allowing for continuous refinement and filtering of important features for users.

The Final Concept Design

The final design is a refined concept proposal based on the efficient working methods that participants preferred from previous prototypes and concepts, as well as mechanisms that have proven to be effective. The design also incorporates key points from the data collection and the themes generated from it. Appropriate materials, aesthetics, and economic choices were carefully selected to make it more consumer friendly.
